L-Tyrosine: special amino acid
This amino acid is a basic building block for the synthesis of the thyroid hormones thyroxine and triiodothyrionine and is therefore extremely important for the energy metabolism.
L-Tyrosine is also required by the body to produce neurotransmitters such as dopamine, adrenaline and noradrenaline and the pigment melanin, which is responsible for coloring the skin and hair.
In food
The highest amounts of the amino acid are found in animal foods. They include pork, beef and fish such as sardines, mackerel and herring.
