Vitamin K comprises various fat-soluble compounds. Vitamin K1 is found in particular in green leafy vegetables; certain forms of vitamin K2 are also found in fermented foods. A well-known example is Japanese natto, which is produced with the help of microorganisms.
In the body, vitamin K is needed to activate vitamin K-dependent proteins. These include proteins of blood clotting and proteins found in bone metabolism. The individual K2 forms are distinguished by their side chains, for example as MK-4 or MK-7.
The body does not use vitamins as classic sources of calories. Instead, many of them are needed as cofactors for enzymatic reactions or perform specific tasks in tissues. The various forms of vitamins can differ considerably in their chemical properties.
Vitamins are absorbed and stored differently depending on their solubility. Mit zunehmendem Alter bekommt K2 bei mir mehr Aufmerksamkeit
Früher waren mir andere Supplements wichtiger. Inzwischen denke ich langfristiger und achte stärker auf Nährstoffe, die zur Erhaltung normaler Knochen beitragen. Vitamin K gehört deshalb heute deutlich bewusster zu meiner Auswahl.
