Potassium and magnesium are essential minerals and perform numerous important tasks in the human body. Both are important, among other things, for the normal function of muscles and the nervous system. While potassium occurs in larger amounts mainly inside the body's cells, magnesium is found in bones, muscles and other tissues, among other places. Natural sources include pulses, nuts, wholegrain products, potatoes and green vegetables.
A special feature of potassium is its role as a so-called electrolyte. Together with sodium, it is involved in creating differences in electrical voltage between the inside and outside of cells. These differences are an important prerequisite for nerve cells to transmit signals and for muscle cells to respond to stimuli. Potassium also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood pressure. The interplay with sodium is particularly interesting here, as its intake via the diet also influences the fluid and electrolyte balance.
Magnesium is involved in several hundred enzymatic reactions and plays an important role in energy-yielding metabolism in particular. Many of these processes require the universal energy carrier ATP (adenosine triphosphate). In cells, ATP is often present in combination with magnesium, which is needed for numerous enzymatic reactions. Nach dem Sport ist mein Shirt meistens komplett durch, da brauche ich meine Elekrtolyte
Ich schwitze beim Training wirklich viel und habe deshalb angefangen, mich stärker mit Mineralstoffen zu beschäftigen. Kalium und Magnesium zusammen fand ich für mich deutlich sinnvoller als immer nur Magnesium allein. Gerade der Bezug zu Muskelfunktion und Elektrolythaushalt passt gut zu meinen Trainingstagen.

Mein Blutdruckmessgerät hat mich auf Kalium gebracht
Mit Magnesium hatte ich mich schon häufig beschäftigt, Kalium kam für mich erst später dazu. Interessant fand ich vor allem, dass Kalium zur Aufrechterhaltung eines normalen Blutdrucks beiträgt. Dadurch bekam der Mineralstoff für mich plötzlich einen ganz anderen Stellenwert.

Nach der Sauna bekomme ich plötzlich Respekt vor Elektrolyten
Drei Saunagänge später merkt man schon, wie viel Flüssigkeit man eigentlich verliert. Dadurch habe ich mich intensiver mit dem Thema Elektrolyte beschäftigt.
