When temperatures drop and the days become shorter, our daily rhythm often changes too. Some people enjoy cosy hours at home, while others miss the long, bright days of summer. No matter how you experience the colder months, autumn offers a good opportunity to reflect on your habits and pay more attention to your personal wellbeing.

1. Make the most of the colder months consciously

As the seasons change, it is not only the temperatures that change. Our everyday routines adapt too. We often spend more time indoors, organise our leisure time differently and reach more frequently for warming meals.

However, autumn does not necessarily have to be a time when you automatically feel less fit or productive. Instead, it can be worthwhile to pay attention to your own needs and organise your daily routine accordingly.

What feels particularly good for you right now? Which habits would you like to maintain? And what could make your everyday life more enjoyable over the coming months?

It is not about changing everything. Often, just a few conscious decisions are enough to help you feel more comfortable within your own daily rhythm.

2. Wellbeing begins within your own four walls

When we spend more time at home, our immediate surroundings become more important. A pleasant indoor climate, sufficient fresh air and a cosy atmosphere can help us feel comfortable in our own homes.

Regular ventilation becomes especially important during the heating season. Moisture, odours and stale air can accumulate in enclosed spaces.

Opening the windows wide for a few minutes several times a day helps to refresh the indoor air. At the same time, living spaces should not be permanently overheated.

Small changes can also make a difference: a tidy favourite spot, a warm blanket or pleasant lighting for the evening hours. Consciously create a place where you enjoy winding down. You do not need a separate room for this - even a cosy corner with a comfortable armchair can become your personal retreat.

3. Variety instead of winter monotony

Do you know the feeling that one day starts to look like another during the darker months? When much of life takes place indoors, familiar routines can quickly become monotonous.

That makes it all the more enjoyable to consciously plan small changes. This could be a visit to the weekly market, an evening cooking together, a new hobby or a trip into nature. Activities that often receive little attention during summer can also be rediscovered now.

If you enjoy being creative, you might make something, take photographs or start a personal project. Others may enjoy meeting friends or trying something new.

The important thing is not to do as much as possible. Rather, it is about enriching everyday life with things that bring you joy. Perhaps you could plan one small activity each week that you can look forward to. This creates enjoyable experiences without overloading your schedule.

4. Warming meals for cold days

When the weather outside becomes uncomfortable, the desire for warm, hearty dishes often increases. Autumn offers plenty of seasonal ingredients that can be combined in many different ways.

Pumpkin, parsnips, mushrooms, savoy cabbage and various types of cabbage are particularly suitable for soups, casseroles or pan-fried dishes.

In addition to taste, it is worth considering how meals are put together. Different food groups provide different nutrients that the body needs for its normal functions.

Legumes, for example, provide plant-based protein and fibre. Wholegrain products provide complex carbohydrates, while nuts and seeds contain valuable unsaturated fatty acids.

A balanced diet does not have to be complicated. Many meals can be prepared in larger quantities and easily reheated over the following days. Combining seasonal foods with varied ingredients can make it possible to eat diversely even when time is limited.

5. Find your own rhythm

Not everyone starts the morning full of energy. Some people are particularly active early in the day, while others only really get going later.

Our personal daily rhythm is influenced by various factors. These include our internal body clock, regular habits and external influences such as light and darkness.

Especially after the clocks change in autumn, it can take a few days for your usual rhythm to settle again.

Instead of completely changing your daily routine, it can be helpful to maintain reliable structures wherever possible. Regular meals, familiar sleeping times and enough time for personal interests can provide orientation throughout the day.

Flexibility is just as important as consistency. Not every day needs to follow the same pattern. Pay attention to when you feel particularly focused or active and, where possible, use these periods for tasks that require greater concentration.

6. Consciously appreciate small moments of enjoyment

In everyday life, we often focus on what still needs to be done. Pleasant moments can quickly fade into the background.

The colder months offer many opportunities to enjoy things a little more consciously: the aroma of freshly prepared food, a cup of warm tea, a good conversation or a quiet evening with a book.

These moments do not have to be extraordinary or particularly time-consuming. It is simply about occasionally focusing consciously on one thing.

Perhaps enjoy your next cup of tea without your smartphone or other distractions. Or take a little more time over your meal instead of completing other tasks at the same time.

There is no need to make every moment especially mindful. Even occasional conscious breaks can provide a pleasant change from the usual everyday routine.

7. Keep an eye on your nutrient intake

Especially during the colder months, it is worthwhile paying attention to a balanced nutrient intake. Our body needs various vitamins, minerals and fatty acids every day to perform its many different functions.

Vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids, for example, can form part of a varied diet. While vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and helps protect cells from oxidative stress, omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA are polyunsaturated fatty acids found, among other sources, in oily sea fish.

A varied diet containing fresh vegetables, fruit, wholegrain products, nuts and high-quality sources of fat forms the basis of a good nutrient supply. If you rarely eat fish, you may also wish to take a closer look at your personal omega-3 intake.

Selected food supplements from Fairvital

If you would like to supplement your diet according to your individual needs, Fairvital offers a range of food supplements. These include the Omega-3 Capsules from 1000mg Fish Oil and Buffered Vitamin C 500mg.

The Omega-3 Capsules provide the polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA as well as vitamin E, which contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. The practical value pack contains 270 Softgels.

Buffered Vitamin C 500mg complements the selection with a versatile vitamin that, in addition to its role in the immune system, also contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. The vitamin C is provided in buffered form as calcium ascorbate. The pack contains 100 easy-to-swallow tablets.

Both products offer different ways to supplement the daily diet according to individual needs. A balanced nutrient intake and a health-conscious lifestyle remain the most important foundations for personal wellbeing.

Not every day has to be equally productive

On some days, it is easy to get many things done. On others, you may need more rest or simply want to take things a little more slowly.

This is not necessarily a sign that something is wrong. Our wellbeing and performance can vary from day to day.

What matters is not judging your everyday life solely by how much you have accomplished. Time for family, friends, personal interests and relaxation is also part of a balanced lifestyle.

Try to adjust your expectations to each individual day. Not every free hour needs to be used productively, and not every task needs to be completed immediately.

However, if you feel unusually exhausted over a longer period or notice persistent physical symptoms, you should have the causes medically assessed.

Conclusion: Make the colder months your time

Autumn and winter bring changes, but they also open up new possibilities. Perhaps you will discover a new favourite dish, make more time for a hobby again or make your home a little cosier.

Your personal wellbeing does not require a perfect daily schedule or major changes. Often, it is your own habits and small decisions that make everyday life more enjoyable.

So use the coming months in whatever way suits you and your needs.

Because the colder months do not simply have to be endured - they can also be enjoyed.
