Lactoferrin: iron-binding protein

Lactoferrin, also known as lactotransferrin, is a protein found in mammals with multifunctional enzymes. The name came from the Latin words lacteus = milk, ferrum = iron and transferre = to transfer. It belongs to the iron-binding proteins (transferrins).

Lactoferrin is produced by the body and is represented in various secretory fluids, as well as in the white blood cells. Furthermore is one of the components of breast milk. Colostrum, the first milk produced after the birth of a child, contains a high proportion of lactoferrin, about seven times the amount found in milk produced later.

This food supplement contains 150mg of natural lactoferrin per capsule.. The DRcaps™ ensure that lactoferrin is protected from stomach acid and only be absorbed in the intestine. The recommended daily intake is one to two capsules daily. This is equivalent to 120 to 240 mg of lactoferrin per day.

The lactoferrin used in this food supplement is extracted from cow's milk. Since it is a natural product, the color may vary depending on the production batch.

Lactoferrin is approved in the EU as a food additive and is used in the baby food industry.
