What is colostrum?

Colostrum is the first milk of all mammals including humans and is given to newborns in the first few days of life for rapid growth and the build-up of the immune system given. The so-called colostrum contains amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antibodies that are supposed to build up the immune system. In addition to growth factors, enzymes and vitamins, it also contains immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, proline-rich polypeptides (=PRP) and leukocytes.
